Mercury Free Thermometer
DescriptionMercury-free clinical thermometer. Medical device class Im.
Useful for clinical measurement of body temperature when positioned in the axillary or oral or rectal site. T-Vedo is equipped with a case that facilitates temperature reading through the innovative accessory that acts as a magnifying glass.
How to use
To lower the column of liquid metal in the T-Vedo model, firmly grip the end of the thermometer between your thumb and forefinger and, being careful not to squeeze it too hard or hit anything, shake the thermometer downwards several times until the column of liquid drops below 36°C.
Axillary (under the arm): If the thermometer is placed on the armpit, a surface temperature is obtained that can vary approximately between 0.5°C and 1.5°C compared to rectal temperatures in adults. Once the thermometer is positioned, the patient must keep the arm close to the body, without applying pressure but ensuring contact between the bulb and the armpit. The average measurement time for this method is approximately 5 minutes. It should be noted, however, that an exact reading cannot be obtained if, for example, the armpits have become cold. In this case, it is advisable to extend the measurement time by approximately 2 minutes to obtain the most accurate reading possible that corresponds as closely as possible to body temperature.
Oral (in the mouth): There are several warm areas in the mouth. In general, oral temperatures are 0.3°C to 0.8°C lower than rectal temperatures. To ensure the most accurate reading possible, place the tip of the thermometer on the left or right side of the root of the tongue. The tip of the thermometer should be in constant contact with the tissue during the reading and should be positioned under the tongue. Keep your mouth closed during the reading and breathe regularly through your nose. Do not eat or drink anything before the measurement. The average measurement time is about 3 minutes.
Rectal (placing it in the rectum): This is the most medically accurate method, as it is closest to body temperature. The tip of the thermometer is carefully inserted into the rectum for a maximum of 0.5 cm. The average measurement time is about 3 minutes.
1. The liquid metal column must always be brought below 36°C before starting a measurement.
2. Before each use, it is necessary to perform a correct cleaning/disinfection/sterilization of the thermometer (depending on the type of application, the environment where it is used and whether it is used alone or in combination). Sterilize in medical alcohol or in plastic sterilization tubes.
3. In case of rectal measurement, it is advisable to apply a specific lubricant before insertion.
4. It is advisable to avoid physical activity, bathing, eating or smoking at least 30 minutes before taking the measurement.
5. Avoid taking axillary measurements after applying refreshing deodorants or deodorants containing silver particles or other substances. Their application may partially interfere with correct measurement.
Warnings
1. The use of clinical thermometers for oral temperature measurement is absolutely not recommended in children under 10 years of age.
2. Patients in whom the thermometer is applied orally should take extreme care to avoid chewing, talking, playing, running or moving until the thermometer is removed from the mouth.
3. Rectal use of the thermometer on children should be applied in a quiet environment, under continuous supervision and supporting the thermometer with one hand to prevent it from penetrating too deeply or slipping out.
4. Always check the structural integrity of the device at least once a year.
