Description
Mepilex
Description
CE Class IIB Medical Device. Sterile. Sterilized by ethylene oxide with a process validated according to EN 550:1994, ISO 11135:1994 and ISO 109937:1995 for EtO residues. Do not resterilize. Bioburden: 79 CFU. The sterility of the individual packaging is guaranteed for 3 years, starting from the production date, provided that it is intact, i.e. has not been opened or damaged.
Absorbent polyurethane foam dressing with a soft silicone contact layer with selective microadherence. Mepilex is designed for a wide range of exuding wounds such as leg ulcers, pressure ulcers and traumatic wounds, such as skin tears and secondary healing wounds.
The action of Mepilex determines exudate control and maintenance of the ideal moist environment for wound healing. Mepilex absorbs exudates vertically. Mepilex, thanks to the contact layer with Safeatc technology, minimizes removal trauma, protects the perilesional skin, thus preventing maceration. Mepilex can also be used in combination with gel and under compression bandages. Mepilex can be kept in place during Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. It can be removed and repositioned without losing its micro-adhesion characteristics. It can be left in place for several days (up to 7) in relation to the state of the wound and the perilesional skin. Flexible, conformable, cuttable.
Safetac is a proprietary soft silicone technology exclusive to Mölnlycke Health Care that minimises patient pain and wound trauma: it does not adhere to moist surfaces such as open wounds but to dry wound edges; it adapts to the irregular surface of the skin to create a larger contact area, which allows for better distribution of the force required for removal, preventing skin stripping; it seals the wound edges, preventing exudate from spreading to the periwound skin, minimising the risk of maceration; it leaves no residue either on the wound bed or on the periwound skin.
How to use
Clean the wound as usual. Allow the surrounding skin to dry. Open the pack and remove the protective paper. Correct removal of the film allows for a sterile application. Apply the “Safetac” side of the dressing to the wound. Do not stretch the dressing. Position the product with a margin of at least 2 cm beyond the area to be treated (for size 10x10) and 5 cm for the larger sizes to protect the surrounding skin from maceration and abrasion and to be able to secure the dressing securely. Mepilex can be cut to size to suit the area to be treated. If necessary, secure Mepilex with a bandage or other fixing system. When removing, gently lift one side and slowly remove the dressing.
Components
Outer film in polyurethane permeable to water vapour and impermeable to liquids and bacteria. Absorbent and flexible pad in open-cell polyurethane foam with vertical absorption. Wound contact layer in soft silicone (Safetac Technology).
Warnings
For external use. In case of infected wounds, use under medical supervision is recommended. In case of sensitization of the treated area or clinical signs of infection, consult a healthcare professional. Do not use Mepilex together with oxidizing agents such as hypochlorite solutions or hydrogen peroxide (oxygenated water). Do not use in patients sensitive to the components. The product is generally well tolerated. No interactions with other substances have been detected.
Conservation
Store at room temperature away from extremes of humidity, dust, pollutants, etc.
Validity for intact package: 36 months.
