Description

ETHYL TEST
SALIVA ALCOHOL TEST

Rapid Test Etil Test is an enzymatic test for the rapid and safe detection of the presence of alcohol (alc) (ethyl alcohol/ethanol) in saliva and other liquid samples. By analyzing the saliva sample it is possible to determine the concentration of alcohol in the blood.
With this enzymatic analysis a qualitative result is obtained, that is, the test shows the presence or absence of alcohol in the samples.
The test detects an ethanol concentration of 0.1 or 10 mg/dL, which is displayed by a light green-gray coloration of the reactive pad or test pad. The green becomes more intense as the concentration of alcohol in the sample increases. Therefore, in the presence of alcohol in the sample, Etil Test determines a color change that goes from light green-gray at an alcohol concentration of 0.1 , to a slightly more intense green at an average concentration, to a dark green-gray color as the alcohol concentration approaches 1.50 .
We recommend using this visual test only as a qualitative test, as the discrimination ability of the human eye may cause errors in quantitative results.
Measures 5 levels of alcohol in the body: 0.00 g/l - 0.20 g/l - 0.50 g/l - 0.80 g/l - 1.50 g/l.
The Etil Test consists of a plastic stick whose end is covered with a reactive pad. The pad, in contact with alcohol solutions, quickly turns green to blue, depending on the amount of alcohol in the liquid. The reactive pad reacts based on a solid-phase chemical synthesis.

How to use
1. Do not put anything in your mouth for fifteen (15) minutes before the start of the test. This includes non-alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, coffee, breath mints, food, etc.
2. Bring the sealed bag to room temperature (15-30°C) to avoid condensation of humidity on the reactive pad.
3. If testing liquid samples other than saliva, ensure that the liquids are at room temperature before testing.
4. Open the package and remove the test stick. Look at the test pad at the end of the test stick. The pad should be a light cream color. A test stick with a dark brown or stained test pad should be discarded.
5. Soak the reactive swab with the liquid or saliva collected from the mouth or a spittoon. Start the stopwatch immediately.
6. After two (2) minutes observe the color change (if any) on the test pad. If the pad turns green or dark green-gray, the test has detected the presence of alcohol and the result is positive. Results obtained after more than 3 minutes may be incorrect.
7. Estimate the approximate concentration of alcohol in the blood by comparing the color of the test pad with the color scale on the test package. We recommend using the visual test only as a qualitative test.

Interpretation of results
After 2 minutes read the color of the reactive pad Do not compare the result of the stick with other color scales. Use only the color scale indicated on the package. The reaction occurs more slowly in saliva than in other aqueous solutions.

Limits
If you do not wait at least 15 minutes after putting food, drinks or other things in your mouth before taking the test, the results may be incorrect due to possible contamination of the saliva with interfering substances.
Etil Test has been designed and calibrated to be interpreted 2 minutes after soaking the reactive swab. If you wait more than 2 minutes, the results highlighted may be wrong or you may have false positive results.
Etil Test can be used to detect the presence of alcohol in fluids other than saliva. However, if used in this way, the color scale on the package cannot be used as a guide.
If alcohol is present in the fluid, the color of the swab will range from light green-gray to black or cocoa colored as the alcohol concentration increases. If the swab is immersed in pure alcohol, the swab will color slightly or not at all, due to the absence of water that is needed for the coloring reaction to occur.
When testing beverages, the result can only be considered positive if the swab turns very dark brown.
Etil Test is a very sensitive test for alcohol. Alcohol vapors often present in the air are sometimes detected by Etil Test.
Alcohol fumes are often present in many public places and inside homes. Alcohol is found in many household cleaning products such as disinfectants, deodorizers, and glass cleaners. If alcohol fumes are suspected, testing should be done in an area where these fumes are not present (outdoors, for example).
Note: The person reading your test results cannot be color blind.

Checks
It is possible to qualitatively verify the integrity of the Ethyl Test, using a solution prepared by adding 4 drops of distilled liquor at 40% alcohol by volume to a glass of water.
With this solution, the tint should match the window by 0.04% or more (darker).
The color reaction with alcohol in saliva occurs more slowly and with a less intense coloration than with alcohol in aqueous solutions.

Characteristics
Specificity: Ethyl Test will react in the presence of methyl, ethyl and allyl alcohol. Ethyl Test will not produce any reaction with alcohols having 5 or more carbon atoms, nor with glycine, glycerol or serine.
This property derives from the specificity of the alcohol oxidase enzyme extracted from yeast.

Interactions
The following substances may interfere with the Etil Test stick if liquid samples other than saliva are used:
Color-enhancing agents:
- Peroxide.
- Strong oxidants.
- (common in detergents, strippers and bleaches).
Agents that inhibit coloration:
Reducing agents:
- Ascorbic acid.
- Tannic acid.
- Pyrogallol.
- Mercaptans and tosylates.
- Oxalic acid.
- Uric acid.
- Bilirubin.
- L-dopamine.
- L-methyldopamine.
- Metampirone.
These substances are usually not present in saliva in quantities that would interfere with the test. However, they should not be introduced into the mouth within 15 minutes before the test.

Warnings
- Disposable.
- Product not intended for medical or diagnostic purposes.
- Do not use beyond the expiration date.
- Allow the reactive swab to absorb enough liquid to completely soak it.
- Do not eat, drink or smoke while specimens or the kit are being handled.
- Do not use the test if the pouch is damaged.
- Bring reagents to room temperature (15-30°C) before use.
- Do not touch the test pad on the stick to avoid contaminating it.
- Avoid contaminating samples with each other by using a new collection container for each sample.
- Not to be used for medical or diagnostic purposes.
- Handle all specimens as if they contain infectious agents. Observe microbiological hazard precautions during testing and follow standard procedures for proper specimen disposal.
- Leave the stick in the sealed bag until ready to use.
- Observe the test result after 2-3 minutes.
- Humidity and high temperatures may affect test results.
- Do not perform the test in an atmosphere containing alcohol.
- Pure alcohol can give false results.
- Be aware of possible cross-reactivity.
- We recommend using the visual test only as a qualitative test.
- The person reading the results cannot be colorblind.

Conservation
The test kit should be stored in the refrigerator or at room temperature (2-30C°) in the sealed bag, depending on the shelf life of the product.
Bring the stick to room temperature to avoid condensation of humidity on the reactive pad.
