Description
ESI MULTI COMPLEX
Vitamin D3
Description
Food supplement.
Vitamin D contributes to the function of the immune system, the absorption and utilization of calcium and phosphorus, normal blood calcium levels, the maintenance of bones and teeth, and muscle function. In men and women aged 60 years and older, a daily intake of at least 20 micrograms of vitamin D, from all sources, helps reduce the risk of falls, which is associated with postural instability and muscle weakness. Falls are a risk factor for bone fractures in men and women in this age group.
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, so it is stored in the liver and released in small doses when its use becomes necessary. Vitamin D can be synthesized by our body, through the absorption of sun rays by the skin. This vitamin is a regulator of calcium metabolism and is therefore useful in the calcification of bones. It also helps maintain normal levels of calcium and phosphorus in the blood. The daily requirement of vitamin D varies depending on age. The daily requirement of vitamin D is 400 units per day, in the absence of risk factors. Doses can vary and reach up to 2,000 units per day (equal to 50 micrograms) in the presence of risk factors or deficiencies.
