In the stomach, as soon as it is ingested, oat bran mixes with the food bolus. If you drink during the meal, the soluble fibers of the bran become saturated with water and fill the stomach, automatically causing the feeling of satiety.
In the intestine, the intestinal bolus arrives after having undergone the triple action of gastric juices, bile and pancreatic juices. The nutrients have now been divided into basic elements, namely proteins and amino acids, while lipids are divided into fatty acids and carbohydrates are divided into glucose. At this point the basic elements are ready to be absorbed by the intestinal walls and then transferred into the blood. It is precisely at this key moment of digestion that oat bran comes into action. The fibers, now mixed with the broken down foods, attach themselves to those surrounding them, preventing their transfer into the blood and transporting them to the colon to end up in the evacuations together with their caloric content. In this way, a loss of calories, cholesterol and sugars is generated.
