Description
Respifluid
Description
Food supplement based on N-acetylcysteine (NAC), lactoferrin, calcium L-methylfolate and cyanocobolamine (vitamin B12), specially formulated to thin bronchial secretions, increase the immune defenses against respiratory infections caused by viruses and bacteria, and reduce plasma concentrations of homocysteine.
It is recommended for dietary supplementation during acute and chronic respiratory tract conditions characterized by dense and viscous hypersecretions, which mainly occur during: acute bronchitis, chronic bronchitis and its relapses, pulmonary emphysema, mucoviscidosis and bronchiectasis.
N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) exerts an intense mucolytic-fluidifying action on pulmonary and bronchial secretions, depolymerizing the muco-protein complexes and nucleic acids that give stickiness to the vitreous and purulent component of sputum and other secretions. It also exerts a direct antioxidant action as it has a free thiol group (-SH) capable of interacting directly with the electrophilic groups of oxidizing radicals. Inside cells, NAC is deacetylated, thus making L-cysteine available, an amino acid essential for the synthesis of glutathione (GSH). GSH is a highly reactive tripeptide, present in various tissues of animal organisms, essential for maintaining the functional capacity and morphological integrity of cells, as it represents the most important intracellular defense mechanism against oxidizing free radicals, both exogenous and endogenous, and against numerous cytotoxic substances.
Lactoferrin is a multifunctional globular protein with antimicrobial and immunostimulatory activity. It is found mainly in breast milk, but is present in many mucous secretions, such as tears, saliva, nasal secretion and bronchial secretion. Lactoferrin is an important component of the nonspecific anti-infective system and inhibits bacterial and viral growth at the mucosal surfaces. It also has immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.
L-methylfolate is the biologically active form of folic acid, is completely bioavailable, does not require metabolic transformations and is not affected by the genetic polymorphism C667T linked to the MTHFR enzyme. It is useful for reducing plasma concentrations of homocysteine, frequently elevated in subjects with chronic respiratory disease and cardiovascular comorbidity.
Cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12) is a water-soluble vitamin, it enhances the effects of L-methylfolate in reducing plasma homocysteine concentrations.
