Description
Myrtipeg
Description
Myrtipeg acts with an osmotic mechanism, retaining water at the intestinal level (preventing its absorption by the small intestine) and thus softening the stool. It is not absorbed, does not ferment and does not irritate the intestinal mucosa. It is eliminated with the stool in an unchanged form. The treatment of constipation is therefore obtained through an increase in water in the fecal mass without changes in plasma volume and loss of electrolytes.
Indicated in cases of constipation and for cleansing the intestine before colonoscopy.
How to use
Dissolve one sachet in a cup full of water (at least 200/250 ml) and drink it immediately. It is recommended to take Myrtipeg away from meals. The dose for adults and children weighing more than 20 kg is one sachet 1-3 times a day according to individual response; in case of prolonged use, the dose can be reduced to 1 sachet 1-2 times a day, even every other day, preferably in the evening before going to bed. The dose for adults is one/two sachets a day based on individual response. In case of prolonged use, the dose can be reduced to one sachet once or twice a day, even every other day, preferably in the evening before going to bed. The daily dose for children weighing more than 20 kg is to be established based on body weight: 0.5 g/kg of body weight, up to a maximum of two sachets/day (corresponding to a body weight of 40 kg).
For bowel cleansing before colonoscopy: the quantity should be at least 70 grams in one liter of water.
It is best to drink the entire amount fairly quickly, avoiding sipping it for a long time. A diet rich in liquids favors the effect of Myrtipeg.
Myrtipeg can also be administered enterally. The content of one or two sachets is perfectly soluble in 100/150 ml of water and can be administered as a bolus via a nasogastric tube or PEG. The maximum daily dose is three sachets and the doctor is responsible for choosing the quantity of water and preparation to be administered.
In children, if the disorder continues despite proper food hygiene, discontinue treatment and investigate for a possible underlying pathology.

Laxatives should not be used by subjects with acute abdominal pain or of unknown origin, nausea, vomiting, marked accentuation or reduction of peristalsis, rectal bleeding.
