Description
Durable fiber
CE medical device, class IIb sterile dressing (Gamma rays) in gelling ethyl sulphonated cellulose fibres.Useful in the management of chronic and acute wounds, partial thickness, full thickness, or superficial granulating lesions. For example, leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic ulcers, surgical wounds, secondary healing wounds, donor sites, fistulas and tunneled wounds, partial thickness burns, traumatic wounds, and wounds prone to bleeding such as mechanically or surgically debrided wounds.
The product does not contain natural resins and gums (latex) which represent a potential allergenic factor.
Available in various formats:
5cm x 5cm pack of 10 dressings, 10cm x 10cm pack of 10 dressings, 15cm x 15cm pack of 5 dressings, 2cm x 45cm pack of 5 dressings.
Mechanism of action
The ethyl sulphonation treatment, like other chemical processes to which cellulose fibres may be subjected (e.g. carboxymethylation), makes the resulting Ethyl Sulphonated Cellulose (ESC) absorbent and gelling. When in contact with exudate, the ESC dressing absorbs it vertically, controlling its lateral dispersion; it gels and traps both the exudate and the bacteria it contains in its structure. It thus reduces the risk of maceration and prevents the escape of fluids, even under compression. The gelation of the fibres allows the dressing to conform to the surface of the lesion, uniformly maintaining a moist environment for healing on the wound bed and reducing empty spaces where bacteria could proliferate. The particular chemical treatment process also makes the gelled dressing less subject to shrinkage and highly resistant to traction: even when applied in cavities or fistulous tracts, the dressing does not easily break during removal from wounds.
Composition and structure
Dressing made of ethyl sulphonated cellulose fibres. The dressing is made of a TNT weave. The dressing absorbs and interacts with the exudate, transforming into a soft, transparent and hydrophilic gel. 80% ethyl sulphonated cellulose fibres and 20% cellulose fibres.
How to use
The dressing may be left in place for up to 7 days or changed when clinically indicated (e.g. in case of exudate leakage or excessive bleeding). Local clinical protocol should also be taken into consideration.
Conservation
Cool, dry place with temperature below 25°C, away from direct light.
Format
Packs of 10 or 5 dressings.
